20 Years of Pawan Kalyan


Today is the auspicious occasion of Dasara festival and the Telugu people across the globe are celebrating the happy day. For a large section of Telugu people, today has become a festive day not because of the Dsara fest but because of this day also marking the completion of 2 decades of Pawan Kalyan in the Telugu film industry.

20 Years ago, on October 11, 1996, an actor named Kalyan Babu was launched as hero with Geetha Arts production venture ‘Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi’. The image of megastar Chiranjeevi’s brother helped Kalyan to score an average result the box office. After ‘Tholi Prema’ released in 1998, youth went crazy after watching a young actor exhibiting ease in acting, style in body language and never before seen energy on silver screen.

The spark in this actor paved way for him to become the ‘Power Star’. With hits like Thammudu, Badri and Kushi, Pawan Kalyan not only came out of the shadow of Chiranjeevi but also posed a threat to his elder brother’s throne. Next, he started experimenting with his movies and the result was a hit-drought for over 10 years. Any other actor would have been erased from history but not Pawan Kalyan. His stardom continued to grow even during this hitless phase and then came ‘Gabbar Singh’ in 2012 to announce the resurrection of this box office emperor. With ‘Attharintiki Daredi’, Pawan scored yet another industry hit and proved he still was the king of BO.

His unexpected decision of floating Jana Sena was received with mixed response but his ardent fans stood by him. It is undeniable that Pawan played crucial role in the victory of TDP in 2014 assembly elections.

With the actor announcing to join active politics in 2019 and also to continue acting in films, a not so easy road is ahead of him. Meanwhile, fans are trending #2DecadesOfPawan Kalyan on Twitter to reiterate that he is the biggest actor with largest fan base.
